Local Plant Based Dining Options

by Lisa DeJessa

Last year I shared some of my places to buy plant based treats but it's 2021 and we are craving something more substantial than a cupcake. Here are some local restaurants to try! (But first a definition)

What is a vegan? According to the Vegan Society there are many ways to embrace vegan living. One thing all vegans have in common is a plant-based diet avoiding all animal foods such as meat (including fish, shellfish and insects), dairy, eggs and honey - as well as avoiding animal-derived materials, products tested on animals and places that use animals for entertainment.

VegOut (Bethlehem): This restaurant might be a bit of a schlep for you but the Caesar Salad is WORTH IT. I was never really into caesar salad before but I am now a devotee. Open in December 2019, VegOut has accessible options for longtime vegetarians and the veg-curious.

Clean Roots Vegetarian (Quakertown): Trust me - even if you do not have a fully plant based diet you will love Clean Roots. They strive to use organic and local ingredients in preparing affordable, delicious and health foods. They also use eco friendly or reusable products to help make the world a better place. One Word: SmokyMac.

Sprig & Vine (New Hope): This is right down the parking lot from my office in Union Station conveniently next to Triumph Brewery. Sprig & Vine has been open since 2010 and over the years they have perfected their menu. This restaurant is a great choice if you have first time veggers in your party or you are looking for a sit down meal you can linger over.
